Knowhow: installing Windows OS to your computer
I wrote this post coz although many people already know how to install operating system for their computer but still there are some people who still doesn’t know. So here we go:
First step: preparing all that you need
- A Computer (of course there is no point installing OS without any computer, silly me)
- Operating system disk (CD), this time we use Windows XP, try to use latest edition (service pack 3)
- Some snacks or drinks (this work can take some time lol)
Installing Operating System
Ok if you have all the things that you need to install OS, you can begin, for this time i just going to explain how to install OS to a new computer.
- Put your Windows XP installation disc to CDdrive
- Boot your computer so it can read the operating system disc inside
- If there is nothing wrong with bios setup (if your computer were brand new the standard bios setup should automatically search for operating system in harddisk or in CD-Rom drive), you should be prompted to”Press any key to boot from CD”
, just press any key and you are entering “Welcome to Setup” screen then press enter to begin installation process
- Read the License Agreement and press F8 if you are agree with its terms and wish to continue installing

- Next screen you will see your installed harddisk and a summary of the available partitions, since your harddisk were new then you should see harddisk with “Unpartitioned Space”
. You could continue installation with single or multi partitions - For now we gonna continue installation with single partition, i will explain how to make multiple partitions later, so press enter to continue installation and it automatically create single partition. Press enter again to select to choose formatting process for partition that you just made
Formatting process could take some time depending how big your harddisk space and the type of formatting process (well that’s the reason why i told you to bring snacks and drinks)
- When the formatting process is done, it will copy the necessary file, and after that windows xp will restart automatically and this point forward you will use windows GUI and you can use your mouse
- Next it will show you Regional and Langguage Options, default option will set you with english (US) for langguage, US for location setting and US keyboard layout for Text Input Langguage, you can change all of these as you wish then click next

- Next screen is Personalize Your Software page, just fill in your name and your organization (if any) then click next

- Next you’ll see Your Product Key page, type your unique Product Key that you can find on your Windows XP CD case and then click next

- On the Computer Name and Administrator Password page, you can type your computer name and password for administrator, for the password you can also make it blank if you don’t want to or you have difficulty to remember it

- On the Date and Time Settings page, set your computer’s clock. Then, click the Time Zone down arrow, and select your time zone and click next

- Windows XP will spend about a minute configuring your computer. On the Networking Settings page and Workgroup or Computer Domain page just click next but sometimes these pages didn’t appear so don’t worry.

- After that Windows XP will spend 20 or 30 minutes configuring your computer and will automatically restart when finished. When the Display Settings and Monitor Settings dialog box appears, click OK.

- After that you can say its pretty much finish and you’ll see Welcome to Microsoft Windows screen, well if this happend congratulation you have succeed
